RE: Call to participation! (we snooze, we lose big)
This is super. We have an opportunity right now to begin promoting and
adopting the Higher Performance Channel. This is a win/win for everyone.
It supports all of our efforts to move to XML and do real time transactions
among FFELP/Alt. Loan participants!

-->
To: EEAT members and lurking participants!
EEAT has a great window of opportunity available to us. In the near future
the Department of Education will begin examining the High Performance
Channel for official usage in their systems. We need to capitalize on this
opportunity now.
High Performance Channel is in production usage in the Meteor project. Yes,
this means that is ready to go for us. There are some enhancements that
need to be added to it so that we can answer the statements in the Web
Services Gotchas (See the end of this note). However, we only have two
hurdles left: technically the documentation is sub-par and there are
business issues that need to be addressed. EEAT can fix the documentation,
but, we need the commitment of a group of people who will make this happen.
The documentation needs to be articulate and focused on three levels: Senior
Management, General Management, and Technical Implementers.
What risks exist if we do not complete this documentation? First, the
Department will not be able to make an informed decision on this technology
roadmap that we have designed. Lacking reasonable implementation
information, they will be forces to choose another method of accomplishing
their needs. Some of these methods could result in a new and intensive
coding effort, duplicating the work and money that EEAT members have already
expended. Other methods could require a large outlay of funds to buy
proprietary systems. Both methods would contribute to additional
technologies that our companies need to contend with.
