The Committee will pursue its mission by actively participating in the analysis, direction, and monitoring of issues relating to and impacting the management of student debt in the Federal Family Education Loan Programs.
Financial Aid Professionals Committee
The FAPC will help NCHELP achieve its mission of continuing to ensure the integrity of the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) and will help to ensure adequate and affordable access to quality higher education for all students at all levels.
Legal Affairs Committee
The NCHELP Legal Affairs Committee's most public activity is the sponsorship of several open meetings throughout the year. The committee meets during both the Spring and Fall Conventions and holds its own meetings in the Winter and Summer. These meetings address both guarantor issues as well as lender and secondary market issues of concern to NCHELP members and FFELP participants. Along with these services, the committee serves as a resource for NCHELP on legal topics.
Private Loan Committee
The NCHELP Private Loan Committee tracks the private education loan market by gathering statistics and projecting trends, monitors consumer credit legislative and regulatory activities, gathers information on state consumer credit laws and research data from such sources at the FTC, FDIC, and the Federal Reserve, and assists the MET Committee in providing training on private loans to NCHELP members. The Private Loan Committee also works with national banking associations such as the CBA, ABA and credit union associations to stay abreast of issues impacting the private loan market.
Regulations Committee
The NCHELP Regulations Committee is responsible for all activity in the regulatory arena including developing NCHELP responses to Notices of Proposed Rule Making and other subregulatory issues. The committee also develops extensive regulatory documentation for dissemination to NCHELP members and other interested parties.
Standards, Operations and Contracting Committee
The NCHELP Standards, Operations and Contracting Committee monitors and responds to issues that involve and impact loan operations and related federal reporting and coordinates and manages all of NCHELP’s standardization efforts, including all versions of CommonLineSM and Common Account Maintenance (CAM).
The committee serves as an operations information center and coordinates the development of common and simplified forms, procedures, and policies between guaranty agencies, lenders/servicers, secondary markets and other higher education lending participants.
Of particular interest to the committee is the fostering of technology application within the student loan industry, including the promotion of the timely development of electronic standards within the FFEL Program (FFELP) and for private student loans. The committee serves as the focal point for standards information and builds awareness of the role of standards in the higher education loan community.
